went to ye olde divan orange because i thought it was mandatory moustache night. but only every second tuesday. some anonymouse jazzers were jazzering there, ... they were, well, . not the great. but the drummer was really fucking good. i think i would have rather listened to just him play, without the sax n' trumpet, but what can ya do? the standup bass was decent, but the drummer was a monster.

drives me mad hearing people ape music from like forty years ago... okay, kinda blue is a decent record, and i'm sure live it was amazing to hear miles davis squaonk that sound, but he was a genius, and these horn toads were not.
there was hardly anybody in the bar by the time they were done, and they kinda came over and stood really close to me as i was getting my coat on, in a way that seemed like they expected me to talk to them, and basically congratulate them (maybe reading too much into the vibe, but, it seemed that way)... the only one i really wanted to talk to was the drummer, to tell him to stop wasting his time with these guys,but, well. sometimes its better to be quiet than to be an asshole, ... often, really.

anyways, i enjoyed them, i just tried to tune out the skwonky brass... at one point the interplay between the sax and the trumpet sounded just like they were fucking, trading bars... i mean, maybe that description could be put to a performance that was hot and awesome and sweaty and primal and amazing, raw animal sex, but this just sounded like a cheezy jack off scene.

but it was nice to get out of the house even if it was to go out into the rain.

wa-hey! so we're moved. and got the infernet hooked up again, thats good. adds to the procrastination factors. better than t.v.! it gives the illusion of more control, more choice. yar.

life is a little bit of a fucker right now, maybe. but not so bad, i guess... just a lot of kinks to work out. employed ! so to speak. through the majesty of an employment agency... not so keen as labour ready, i suppose... no cash at the end of the day... working in a factory, this place is huge. huger than i've ever seen. just ridiculous, i got lost on my first break, but i got to see 'round the place a bit... and at least i didn't get lost until after i got my sandwich. waking up early sucks, tho... the metro is a bit of a bitch too, if they want me back after tomorrow i'm going to have to figure out how to bike there.... i think i can probably do it in about the same time as the metro takes, and feel a lot better about doing it. but i need to give my body another day to adjust to slangin' boxes around and being on my feet all day.

been listening to a lot of public enemy - fear of a black planet lately. i think its affecting my internal psychology.

my gran (canadian, dad's mum) died this morning at 7'ish a.m. .... she was a magical and fantastic person, and i'm blessed she was part of my life, and lucky i was able to see her before she passed. also amazingly lucky i was/am able to see my family and friends out here... walking around, its like... vancouver's a scumfest and i'm glad to be in montreal as home... but, this is where my anchor is.

damn... spent basically since saturday evening here in bed, barring the occasional excursion downstairs, and one to the clinic, which was, mercifully, not too many blocks away. although it was pretty much at the peak of my illness and i think we had to wait for an hour and a half with screaming undisciplined childrens... they probably weren't that bad, but the state i was in it was like a bad acid trip. fortunately i was able to contain myself and not snap at them. it could've been ugly...

so all this sickness (which turned out to be some vicious virus loged in my head, coupled with some strep throat) has hampered my taking of food pictures... but, i also decided against taking pictures of some of the mind boggling things i blew out of my face... i swear. its been nonstop outflow of heinousness for like 6 solid days. fuck. coupled with throat raw to the point of screaming barely swallow/breathe agony, headaches comparable to getting sckrunched repeatedly in the noggin with a sledge hammer, and barely grabbing a wink of sleep. good times, good times, bienvenue au montreal.

well, i think i'm almost better. i mean, i feel like what would normally count as a bit sick. but that is so much better than how i felt 48 hours ago, when i felt like my mind/body/machine was about to start or had perhaps already started disintegrating... i'm a new man! 11 hours of continuous sleeps helps, i think.

perhaps i'll even venture outside today? baby steps, baby steps.

birthday day, .... slow start :) lounging, magic breakfast in bed made by a magic lady... jasa and i kicked out some guitar/viola jamzs which were fun, eVENTulallYYY made it OUT ... late. way late! wo! well. i blame the three hour askew. whatchya gonna do? we went to this rad cd store. like scratch, but in montreal, without all the poseur attitude. or with less of it, anyways. and i bought a cd! cuz, hey, motherfuckers, its my birthday!! half japanese "loud"... i'm listening to it now. its amazing. what else can i say? amazing. fierce. screaming madness.

and, i bought us deerhoof tix, ya! for. um. the future,not even sure the date of the show. but coming up. ! rad, hooray for birthdays. then we went for a feast, at this veggie restaurant, i forget the name, with me jasa frieda and, um, .james... and a girl, i forget her name... anyways, frieda had written this string quartet, played by james, ? girl, and somebody else... or two? those details are sketch a bit to me. whatever. and so we had a pretty good dinner, birthday! and, frieda i guess was taking the others out on money made from performance of this show, anyways, money made from performance, made frieda put dinner out on the show! free dinners are hooray from me. yum. and vegan, too! but, walking there and back, we walked past magic meat grill central! have to go there another time, to make up for the veggies. smelled so fucking good!! and you could see the chunks of flesh out on the grills. mmmmmmmmmm.

ya. did i mention mega walks? over an hour each way. good exercise, i guess... the march back was epic, ... we got two bottles of sparkling wines, henkel trocken and ...something spanish, in a black bottle.

ya, dranken at the new homestead, communing with the new homefriends, jasa and aya and miriam (sp?)... good times. its nice to have aya here, like, another ally from the oldschool meatball world, the land of vancouver... a marginal less weight.

anyways. at least i made it! i feel alive again. and well.

AND THE BOREDOMS ARE PLAYING AT THE VICTORIAVILLE FESTIVALLE MUSIC ACTUELLE! END OF MAY!! WO! THE FREAKIN' BOREDOMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its 170 k from here. but we have to go. i mean, goddadadddadamn! the boredoms are one of those bands, i'd dream of seeing, but know there is almost no chance of them ever going to vancouver, so i figured i'd have to go to japan or new york to ever see them... but here they are!! maybe we can hitchhike? i dunno... or bus, but... as always, the $$$$$$$$. we'll figure it out. this is much more for absolute than abandoned NYC missions... which are just delayed. i'm not getting to 29 before i get to NYC.

electric MOON banana ride last night, the epic of the epic rides. epic , and classic. rode up to the grind , to get my 2002 t4, up to queen liz park in a round about way, up to ubc, where there was some mega cubscout action going on... down spanish banks,down the lightspeed hill, damn i love that hill. me and ben dove nude into the sea! hardcores that we are. it was pretty invigorating... eventually we made it home, well, for me, temp overnight home with the yeske. arriving there, broken and old and tired feeling at 6 a.m. fook! full of pains... i'm really curious how many K we must've put on that night, 40? 50? 60? it was long. LONG. but, we all survived, and we maybe even made a convert. yeah. emb. what a thing. kings of the road.

i wanted to give the ride a mad detailed beauty write up, but that'll have to wait for another day. i'm stoked to see the pix.

its fuckin' fantastically beautiful up here, warm moonlit nights, so peaceful. sunshines! this world is giving me a friendly goodbye. the last two nights i climbed the walnut tree in the moonlight. good times :) i even left a secret surprise up there last night... to be found one day by someone! hehehehehe.

been hangin with the chris... he's evolving! i think. it does seem that way. good thing! hopefully i'm evolving too, it feels like i am.

so , hey, i think i'm actually LEAVING! i'll show you three shades of jerk, mr. chrissariff. indeed! last hurdle of the legal hassle transpires friday, a formality more or less. goddamn archaic wasteful dances they make a person do. so. wow. its almost hard to believe its true. montreal , eh? by the end of next week. i think i'll fly out thursday, as it stands now. it all seems like a dream.

listening to the boredoms... that helps make it a good dream.

went down to the sea earlier... a light rain was falling, the wind was at my back as i walked along the slippery rocks, the green waves crashing in hard... the sea smell! fuck i love that smell. and i love that spring rain, grey and hazy, but not too cold, in spite of the wave of fine hail that came down. i think i like it because it means summer is coming. i also like it because it means i have the place to myself, because most folks hate it. whatever, it was grand. its good to feel the touch of the planet on your skin. makes me feel alive. i haven't really felt alive that much lately, just.. . suspended in the ether. so it was nice to feel alive. at the end of hiking around on the rocks for an hour or more i climbed up the side of gospel rock, this cool outcropping/viewpoint pretty near my folks house. it was kinda nice, i haven't clambered up that thing in a long time, maybe since ira's wedding, and that was going down. maybe me and brent climbed it once, i'm not sure. i do remember when chuck and i climbed down it though, 5 30 or so in the bright summer dawn the morning ira got married... hehehe... we had a bottle of dodgy jug wine we'd been making friends with all night, and we went skinny dipping with it when we got down to the beach, and chuck swallowed some seawater and then puked into the sea. and then, as i was basking naked in the sun drying off, i was playing my electric guitar through a little portable amplifier i have, and some old man on his morning walk came along... dumbfounded, he was... " oh... aaaaah thought ah hurd a raydee-oh... " "nope"... good times.

yeahp. so leaving! gotta like that. its been a long enough not leaving.

AND, i just found out today, that there is a series of childrens books about a dog called carl!!

last night i fell asleep in my clothes, with a cadbury creme egg in my pocket. fuck! ... so i awoke, feeling a strange mush in my left pocket, like, "what the hell???" ... there were some napkins from the seven eleven in there too, so, all together, it was a nasty mess of melted chocolate and paper, with a couple of dimes in the mix... and all stuck to my leg through the material of the pocket... terrible. if you are going to buy candy late at night after too many beers, eat it right away. that is my advice.

i wasn't even gonna go... so tireds. 3&1/2 hours sleep.. 12 hour day of work. hangover. my mind was like, 'fuck that'... but the conspiracy of radness that surrounds emb coaxed me in. at least there was no keg. and at that critical juncture when it seemed like a good idea to smork some reefers, fixie jim saw the light (as manifested in a staggering falling friend) and said unto us (paraphrased) "what the hell... you kids best not!"

ya. good ride. solid. 13! quickly shrunk to 12... curious fellow of seemingly advanced years and a recent affliction of the irc... he was lost, on the first hill out! well. thats what happens, when thine ride is smart looking, but non-functional, in the hammering sense. speaking of hammering! hammerd the fook out of the way home, a good kingsway burn, all the way down, from central park (bby) to main street, down seventh, n' over the cambie street bridge to the 1135 haro (i think thats the address) where i am now. my flirtation with a 'sweengeeng bach-ha-loar pahd'. i don't think i've done a good full on kingsway burn since i rode the sekine, damn... lotta water under the bridge since then, yehp.

on the legal front. i have to write a one page essay on 'crime and consequence'. fucking reetarded. what a thing to have to stay here for. so grade ten. whatever. its the way it goes. maybe its for the best, despite the suck... there are a lot of intangibles that seem better than they were. fairly deep ones. altho other intangibles seem worse. but those aren't so deep. and i've come around. i used to think i didn't really ever want to come back, more or less. but now i think i'll be stoked to come back. but just to visit.

HAD A GREAT DAY, IT WAS A GORGEUS ONE, RODE AROUND THE GIB-TOWN ON THIS FONKY TENSPEED MOUNTAIN-BIKE MINE PAPA PICKED UP LAST SUMMER... MOST OF THE GEARS WORK, AND I PUT A BIT OF WORK INTO GETTING THE BRAKES ALIGNED AND THE TIRES PUMPED, THE GEARS A BIT MORE FUNCTIONAL. THING IS DAMN HEAVY.

THE BEST, IS THE INGLIS TRAIL, BOTTOM OF SHAW ROAD, COMES OUT LOWER GIBSONS, ... ITS WIDE! AND SO ... SO MAGIC! ITS AMAZING THAT A SWEEEEET SPOT LIKE THAT IS SO EASY TO GET TO... FUCKING AMAZING.
